Heavy to very heavy rain predicted : Depression likely to move northwards
KalimNews, Kalimpong, 20 March 2022: Light to moderate rain occurred at most places over Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Very light to light rain occurred at one or two places over Sikkim. Weather remained dry over the rest of the region. Heat wave conditions prevailed at one or two places in Jharkhand. Yesterday’s maximum temperature rose appreciably at one or two places in Odisha, Sikkim and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal. No large change occurred elsewhere in the region. Those were above to markedly above normal at most places in Jharkhand, Sub Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim; above to appreciably above normal at most places in Bihar and Gangetic West Bengal and at many places in Odisha and normal elsewhere in the region.
The highest maximum temperature of 41.0 °C was recorded at Titlagarh (Odisha) in the plains of the region. Today’s minimum temperature rose appreciably at one or two places in Bihar, Odisha, Sikkim and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal; fell appreciably at one or two places in Gangetic West Bengal and rose markedly at one or two places in Gangetic West Bengal. No large change occurred elsewhere in the region. Those were appreciably to markedly above normal at most places in Jharkhand, Sikkim and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal; above to markedly above normal at most places in Bihar; above to appreciably above normal at one or two places in Odisha; above normal at one or two places in Gangetic West Bengal; below normal at one or two places in Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal and normal elsewhere in the region.
SYNOPTIC SITUATION Sunday 20/03/2022
Yesterday's Well Marked Low pressure area concentrated into a depression and lay centred at 0830 hrs IST of today , the 20th March over SouthEast Bay of Bengal and adjoining South Andaman Sea near latitude 10.1°N and longitude 92.6°E, about 110 km northnorthwest of Car Nicobar (Nicobar Islands), 170 km south of Port Blair (Andaman Islands) and 840 km southsouthwest of Yangon(Myanmar). It is likely to move nearly northwards along & off Andaman & Nicobar Islands, intensify into a Deep Depression during next 24 hours and into a Cyclonic Storm during subsequent 12 hours. No significant synoptic situation prevails over the land area of the region.

Sunday 20 Mar(Day-1) Heavy to Very Heavy rain (7-20 cm) at a few places with Extremely Heavy rain (>20 cm) or thundershowers very likely to occur at most places over Andaman & Nicobar Islands ; likely at at a few places over Sikkim; at one or two places over Darjeeling, Kalimpong districts of Sub Himalayan West Bengal . Dry weather most likely over Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha and the rest districts of West Bengal. No large change in day temperature and it is likely to be above normal by 2-4°C during next 4-5 days over the land area of the region. Squally winds with speed reaching 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph are very likely to prevail over Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Monday 21 Mar(Day-2) Heavy to Very Heavy rain (7-20 cm) at a few places with Extremely Heavy rain (>20 cm) or thundershowers very likely to occur at most places over Andaman & Nicobar Islands; likely at one or two places over Odisha, Sikkim and Darjeeling, Kalimpong districts of Sub Himalayan West Bengal . Dry weather most likely over Bihar, Jharkhand and the rest districts of West Bengal. Gale winds with speed reaching 65-75 kmph gusting to 85
kmph are very likely to prevail over Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
