TT Correspondent | Alipurduar | 19.02.22 : A resident of Kalchini block in Alipurduar district was sentenced to life imprisonment by a local court here on Friday for murdering his sister-in-law in 2017.
Prashanta Narayan Majumdar, the public prosecutor, said that Tumpa Oraon, convict Dilip Oraon’s mother, was the eyewitness of the crime and testified against her son.
Dilip had killed the wife of his elder brother at their house in July 2017 during an altercation.
After the incident, Sukumar, his brother, had filed a complaint against Dilip.
“Dilip was later arrested and the trial commenced in due course. Today, the additional district and sessions court (first track) ordered his life imprisonment,” said lawyer Majumdar.
“I am happy that my younger son has been punished for his deed,” said the elderly mother on court premises on Friday.
Cattle seized
Troops of the 41 battalion of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) that guards the India-Nepal border intercepted two persons and recovered 21 cattle from them on Friday. Sources said they intercepted a truck in Kharibari area of Siliguri sub-division and found two persons, Mohammad Nasiruddin and Mohammad Jahir, were illegally taking those to Bihar. They were handed over to a team of Kharibari police.
In another case Rajkumar Prasad, a resident of Champaran of Bihar, was arrested by the Pradhannagar police on Thursday. He was illegally carrying 110 bottles of liquor to Bihar, sources said.
