TT Special Correspondent   |   Calcutta   | 16.02.22 : Bengal on Tuesday logged 348 Covid-19 cases, which included 71 from Calcutta, 1,323 recoveries and 21 deaths.

This is for 10 successive days that the state recorded a three-digit figure of infections in a 24-hour period. The total of active cases dropped by 996 to reach 10,630 on Tuesday.

The recovery rate also improved for 30 consecutive days and reached 98.42 per cent. The national rate is 97.82 now.

The positive confirmation rate improved to 1.14 per cent from 1.29 on Monday.

This is for 16 days in a row in the third wave that the state registered a positive confirmation rate of less than 5 per cent. A positive confirmation rate up to 5 per cent is considered tolerable. On January 10, the rate had reached an all-time high of 37.32.

The current level of the positive confirmation rate means one out of every 88 samples in the state is testing positive. On January 10, it was two out of five.

Calcutta recorded four deaths, while 11 districts reported none.

The mortality rate is 1.05 per cent now.

Bengal has logged over 20.11 lakh cases till now since the first was detected in the state in March, 2020. The total includes nearly 19.8 lakh recoveries and 21,061 deaths.
