The Telegraph | Calcutta | 02.02.22 : Bengal on Tuesday logged 2,014 new Covid-19 cases, including 265 from Calcutta.
In 24 hours till 9am on Tuesday, the state also logged 5,548 recoveries and 33 deaths, including six from Calcutta, resulting in a drop in active cases by 3,567 to 22,142. This was the 16 day on the trot of such a drop in the third wave.
The positive confirmation rate — percentage of samples testing positive — was 4.09 per cent on Tuesday, also below 5 per cent for first time during the third wave, specifically since December 29 last year.
It means one of every 25 samples in the state is testing positive now. On January 10, it was two out of every five.
Bengal’s recovery rate also reached 97.86 per cent, up from 97.68 per cent on Monday. The national rate is 94.6.per cent.
Between December 29 and January 16, it had dropped by nearly eight percentage points, before recovering by over seven percentage points in these 16 days.
In these 16 days, the state reported 2.37 lakh recoveries, which outweighed the 99,831 new infections detected.
Twelve of the state’s 23 districts reported zero deaths. The mortality rate is 1.03 per cent.
Bengal has over 19.97 lakh cases now, since the first was detected in the state in March, 2020. The total includes more than 19.54 lakh recoveries and 20,652 deaths.
