The West Bengal education department is going to commence a new initiative titled 'Paray Sikshalay' which translates to 'neighborhood school'. Under this new initiative, students at the primary and pre-primary level in state-run schools will be provided lessons in open spaces, an official informed on Sunday.

Para-teachers and primary school teachers to be recruited
The 'Paray Sikshalay' will be roping in para-teachers and primary school teachers to impart elementary education to students of classes 1 to 5 as it has received the approval of the State Secretariat 'Nabanna'.

Loss due to Covid-19
Commenting on the loss of studies due to Covid-19, the official said, "Children have long been deprived of tutorial lessons owing to the Covid-19 pandemic-induced restrictions. We have now decided to hold classes on open ground."

Students to be encouraged for extracurricular activities
The official further informed that, in addition to receiving elementary education, students will also be motivated to participate in extracurricular activities such as elocution and painting.
