Haridwar hate speech: FIR against main leader filed
Narasimhanand is the fifth to be named in the complaint
TT Bureau, Agencies | New Delhi | 01.01.22 : Uttarakhand police has filed a "hate speech" case against Yati Narasimhanand - the organiser of a 'dharam sansad', or 'parliament of religions', in Haridwar last month that stirred a massive row after some Hindu religious leaders instigated people called for genocide against Muslims, according to ndtv.com.
Narasimhanand was one of the speakers at the event and is the fifth to be named in a FIR. The others are Sagar Sindhu Maharaj, a woman identified as 'Sadhvi Annapurna' and a man named Dharam Das, as well as a Wasim Rizvi aka Jitendra Tyagi. All five have been charged with promoting enmity between religious groups and defiling a place of worship, added ndtv.com.
Trinamul Congress leader and RTI activist Saket Gokhale filed a complaint naming others present at the event were the Hindu Raksha Sena's Prabodhanand Giri, BJP women's wing leader Udita Tyagi, and BJP leader Ashwini Upadhyay, who is out on bail in a hate speech case.
However organisers refuted all charges.
