TT Correspondent   |   Siliguri   |   23.01.22: The electric loco of the Bikaner-Guwahati Express that had derailed in Jalpaiguri district on January 13 jumped tracks again near Siliguri Junction on Saturday evening.

Sources said that after the accident in which nine persons had died and 36 had suffered injuries, the engine had been hauled to New Domohoni station and kept there for inspection. On Saturday, another loco was engaged to bring the engine to the shed at Siliguri Junction. The engine derailed just before entering the station.

On Saturday, it took about an hour for the railways’ technical staff to bring back the loco’s wheels on the tracks. It was then slowly hauled into the loco shed of the station, the sources said.

No casualty or injury was reported. Union rail minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, who had visited the accident spot on January 14, had hinted that mechanical error in an equipment of the loco had led to its derailment when 12 coaches had jumped tracks.

After the accident on January 13, it had been found that the rear trolley of the engine had derailed while the front trolley was on the rail.
