Bengal logs 4,494 new Covid-19 cases and 36 deaths

The Telegraph   |   Calcutta   |   26.01.22  : Bengal on Tuesday reported 4,494 Covid-19 infections, including 591 from Calcutta.

In 24 hours till 9am on Tuesday, the state also logged 18,825 recoveries and 36 deaths, resulting in a drop in the total of active cases by 14,367 to 80,168. This was the ninth consecutive day of such a drop in the third wave.

The positive confirmation rate improved to 7.12 per cent (from 8.84 on Monday).

The recovery rate, for the ninth consecutive day, improved to reach 94.91 per cent from 94.17 on Monday.

Nine districts reported zero deaths on Tuesday. Calcutta and North 24-Parganas logged seven each.

The state’s mortality rate is 1.03 per cent now, with that of infected males at 1.21 and of infected females, 0.80.

Bengal has more than 19.74 lakh cases now, since the first was detected in the state in March, 2020. The total includes over 18.73 lakh recoveries and 20,411 deaths.
