Ajoy Edwards confident of HamroParty winning Darjeeling civic polls

YOWAN MOTHAY and YAWAN GURUNG, EOI,  KALIMPONG / MIRIK, JANUARY 24, 2022 :  Hamro Party president Ajay Edward is confident of thevictory of his party in the upcoming civic polls in the hills. Edwards said in Kalimpong on Monday in anews conference that Hamro Party was preparing for themunicipal elections in Darjeeling hills. Edwards  said Hamro Party had formed ward committees in all the 32 wards of Darjeeling Municipality. The date for elections to the Darjeeling Municipality had been fixed for February 27. He said he would return to Kalimpong only after winning the Darjeeling municipal elections.
The silent majority, whoare really upset with the politics in the Darjeeling hills, are joining our party every day," he said. People now wanted to build a new hill, villages and towns. After the formation of the Darjeeling municipal board, Hamro Party would provide opportunities to the youths in education, music, sports and also facilities for health check-up.
Edward held meetings with his party cadres in Kalimpong in the party office and visited a free health check-up camp organized by the Edwards Foundation at 8th Mile. Many people benefited from the free health check-up camp. About 80 families from wards 19 and 20 of Kalimpong  Municipality joined Hamro Party during the day in Edwards' presence, said Hamro Party leader Pritam Sharma.
Ajoy Edwards also visited Mirik to meet party cadres and discuss organizational issues. Speaking to reporters, he said his goal was the coming municipal elections in the hills. "Even though the current Mirik municipality chairman LB Rai is a pillar in the politics of the hills, Mirik needs change and we have come to the people of Mirik as a viable option," he said.
He reiterated his belief that the silent majority would vote in their favour. They wanted a change in Mirik and that change could be brought by Hamro Party. Edwards claims that the hill people were in a precarious situation because of the lack of proper planning and implementation of the plans. He said he had discussed the upcoming municipality elections in Mirik in detail with the local activists and prepared a strategy.
