Accused held in twin murder case in Kalimpong after 14 days of murder

DARJEELING, 11 JANUARY 22 : Thirty-three-year old Krishna Pradhan, a resident of Third Mile in Kalimpong town was arrested last night for his alleged involvement in the murder of a couple in the town.
The accused has been arrested in connection with the murder of 68-year-old Shambu Chettri, alias Khadka Bahadur Khadka, and his 45 year-old wife Vishnu Chettri. The couple was found dead in their house at Third Mile on 28 December.
"Investigations were going on in the case and it was only last night that we arrested the accused. We have come to know that the motive behind the crime was robbery, and some money, along with valuables, had been stolen then. We are continuing with the investigations," Kalimpong Superintendent of Police Hari Krishna Pai said.
The accused, who was produced in the court today, has been sent in seven days' police remand.
Villagers of Tashiding in the Third Mile area where the incident had occurred thanked the police for the speedy investigations and the arrest.
"We are thankful to the police for arresting the person behind the crime so fast. The entire village was worried due to it and was spending sleepless nights with the culprit behind it not having been caught," said Som Prasad Pradhan, a local resident.
