Private firm seeks to recycle N Bengal waste

SNS, SILIGURI, 16 DECEMBER 21 : Hulladek Recycling Pvt ltd, Eastern India's fastest growing e-waste management company, has set its foot in North Bengal with Admybin as the franchise partner. According to the company, it plans to recycle 1000 Ton of e-waste from North Bengal by 2025.

The company presently has a collection network of e-waste across 23 cities in 13 states in the country and plans to increase its collection points across all states of India, it is learnt.

"Electronic products are made of metal, plastic, glass and a small percentage of hazardous chemicals. The generation of electronic waste has been growing since the past decade. In 2020, India generated 3.2 million tonnes of e-waste. On an average, e-waste can be valued at approximately Rs. 50/- Kg, which implies that the e-waste industry in India is worth INR 16 billion. People are not aware of the proper methods of e-waste disposal and recycling. The lack of initiative or the willingness to let go of the monetary compensation provided by the scrap dealers adds to improper e-waste management," the company said in a statement.

"The unorganized sector of the waste management industry consists of scrap dealers and unauthorized recyclers. The scrap dealers resort to acid bath or chemical leeching for metal extraction. This method only recovers 20-25% of the precious metals.

"They also dismantle the electronic item, retrieving metals that have resale value, the remaining is thrown into landfills or water bodies, that has a telling effect on the environment. To address the issue, e-waste Management and Handling rules were introduced in 2011 that was updated in 2016 by the Central Pollution Control Board that oversees the formal e-waste management in India," it added.

According to the company, Hulladek provides proper collection and recycling of electronic waste.

"We have introduced door-to-door services for e-waste collection. The waste collected is transported to our partners across the country for safe disposal. relevant documents and certificates are shared with clients once the waste is recycled," it said.

"According to the industry estimate, the percentage of e-waste being recycled will he increasing from 5% to 10% - 15% and hence we aim to grab this opportunity and take up a greater share of the market. With North Bengal emerging as a very important destination for living as well as business, we thought it prudent enough to set up our collection centre here with Admybin", said Nandan Mall, Chairman and Managing Director, Hulladek Recycling Pvt Ltd.

"Admybin is a Kolkata based organization established in 2014 with the vision of providing citizens the necessary infrastructure for proper waste disposal. Since 2020, we have been actively operating in Siliguri and Bhubaneshwar. Admybin installs dustbins across East India in collaboration with the local municipalities and also does their daily maintenance. These bins serve as a medium for branding and social awareness under the CSR and advertising initiative for several organizations. We are excited to be a part of the North Bengal journey of Hulladek as their franchise partner", said Ankit Agarwal, Founder, Admybin.
