Board exam discrepancies won’t hurt students, says CBSE

In some papers, there have been questions with more than one correct answer, while some suggested answers have been found to be different from contents of textbooks

TT Special Correspondent   |   New Delhi   |   04.12.21: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Friday acknowledged the possibility of ambiguity in board exam questions and discrepancies between its suggested answers and the contents of textbooks, but assured that no student would suffer.

“Although every possible care is taken by the Board, there may still be a possibility of some ambiguity in questions or discrepancy in answer keys. However, the Board has a well-settled system to address such issues,” said a notification issued by the CBSE’s examination controller, Sanyam Bhardwaj.

The notification said the evaluators may evaluate the OMR sheets according to the answer keys provided to them.

“It is also to be noted that the observations or feedback received will be duly considered on the recommendation of subject experts at the time

of preparation of results so that no student is put to any disadvantage,” the notification said.

In some of the papers, there have been questions with more than one correct answer, while some suggested answers of the CBSE have been found to be different from the contents of textbooks it follows in schools.

Since the exams are being held through multiple-choice questions and the papers are evaluated on the same day, the evaluators follow the answers suggested by the CBSE.

Many students have expressed fears of losing marks.
