Decision taken following allegations on the company for using Pegasus to snoop on foreign leaders and others
TT Bureau, Reuters | Washington | 03.11.21: In a startling development, the US Commerce department on Wednesday, has blacklisted controversial Israel’s NSO group over the Pegasus snooping, according to Reuters. The department accused the company of selling the spyware abroad which intrudes into the privacy of government officials, journalists and several other persons of importance.
The Narendra Moldi government was recently at the receiving end of the Opposition leaders when a report by International Consortium of Investigative Journalists alleged the centre used the spyware to snoop on Opposition politicians and other eminent personalities. The Monsoon session of the Parliament was jeopardised with the Opposition launching a scathing attack on government for allegedly spying on them.
