GJM complaint on illegal quarrying in Relli river

YOWAN MOTHAY, EOI, KALIMPONG, NOV 12, 21 : A Gorkha Janmukt Morcha team on Friday handed over a memorandum to Additional District Magistrate Land Reforms of Kalimpong district on illegal quarrying in Relli river.
GJM central committee member Dawa Lepcha said during a visit to the river on November 8 that they found a lot of things and heard of complaints. In a part of the river illegal mining of sand and stone was going on. The government had asked the quarry operators to operate the quarries manually but the owners were using machines, leading to problem of unemployment.
The use of heavy machinery for quarrying was damaging many areas around Relli river, including Pudung, 14 Miles, including erosion. Apart from the areas whore quarrying had been allowed by the administration quarrying was also going on iIllegally in many places.
