Demand for Mamata’s intervention in murder of hill women in Delhi

Don't Miss

YAWAN GURUNG and EOI CORRESPONDENT MIRIK / DARJEELING, NOVMEBER 17, 2021: Two women, Mina Rai (35) of Chandraman town, Thurbo , Mirik and Sujala Gurung Pradhan (40) of Mangarjung Tea Estate, Pokhribong, were found dead at their employer’s house in southeast Delhi’s Jungpura Extension on Monday morning, the police said.
The two women had been living in the staff quarters of the house since they started working there as maids in June, they said. Police said no injury marks were found on any of the deceased but the cause of death would be clear only after post-mortem.
According to police, the owner of the house was sleeping on the ground floor while the two women stayed on the first floor. The hands and legs of the deceased were tied. Nothing has been taken from the house.
A case was registered under sections 302 (murder) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code and investigations had started, the police said. Crime and Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) teams had inspected the scene of crime.
The bodies were cremated on Tuesday evening, family sources said. Bharatiya Gorkha Prajatantrik Morcha president Anit Thapa requested West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Delhi Police Special Commissioner Robin Hibu for their intervention to arrest those allegedly involved in the murder of two hill women in Delhi.
In his letter to the West Bengal Chief Minister and the Delhi Police Special Commissioner, the BGPM president said citizens belonging to the hills and residing, working and studying in the national capital had become apprehensive after the twin murder. "Lots of people from the Darjeeling hills are in Delhi. They are now feeling insecure and are panicky due to such a heinous crime," Thapa said.
BGPM has requested for a high-level inquiry and arrest of the culprits.
"We feel, to ease apprehensions among the Gorkha people living in Delhi, a high-level inquiry should be initiated. The families of the two murdered persons should get justice, " Thapa said.
