Meghdeep Bhattacharyya   |   TT  |  Calcutta   |   23.10.21: Bengal on Friday reported 846 new Covid-19 infections, 792 recoveries and 12 deaths. Active cases rose by 42 to 7,577.

A Bengal minister said the new cases reported now is indicative of people who got infected in the October 13 to 17 (Mahashtami to Dwadoshi) window.

Seventeen Bengal districts reported zero deaths on Friday. Calcutta reported three, while North 24-Parganas reported four.

The state now has 4.47 per cent of the national total of active cases, and is sixth on the list of states with the highest number of such cases.

The state’s recovery rate is currently 98.32 per cent, while the national rate is 98.14.

The daily positive confirmation rate, which was nearly 33 per cent at the peak of the second wave, was 2.1 per cent on Friday.

The state’s mortality rate is 1.2, while that of the nation is 1.33 per cent.

Bengal now has more than 15.84 lakh Covid-19 cases, since the first was logged in March last year.

The total includes nearly 15.58 lakh recoveries and 19,033 casualties.
