TT | New Delhi | 16.10.21: The Congress on Friday questioned the “mind-boggling” silence of the Narendra Modi government on a video released by the Chinese that purportedly shows injured Indian soldiers in their captivity after the Galwan Valley clash last year, arguing that if true then India needs to drag China to the international court on war crimes.
Urging the government to clarify if the video was genuine, Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera asked how dare China behave in this manner and how could Prime Minister Modi remain silent.
Addressing a media conference in New Delhi, Khera said the video that purportedly shows “our braveheart soldiers injured and in captivity of the Chinese” had deeply disturbed every Indian.
“The silence by our government on the veracity of this video is mind-boggling. If this video is genuine, then by all standards, this would fall within the category of war crimes for which China is definitely liable for prosecution under the International Criminal Court,” the Congress spokesperson said.
“Instead of patting each other’s back, the Prime Minister and the home minister of India should ensure that China is held globally accountable for indulging in war crimes against our bravehearts,” Khera added.
After the Galwan Valley clash, Modi had said nobody had intruded into Indian territory and that no Indian post had been taken over.
Pointing out that China was intruding into several areas, Uttarakhand being the latest, Khera said: “Our government has in the meanwhile increased trade with China by 62 per cent.”
The government has so far not reacted to the video but BJP MP Subramanian Swamy has tweeted: “If authenticated then it is a horrible sight and Modi government is heartless.”
