India Today Web Desk, May 2, 2021, May 2, 2021, New Delhi : India on Sunday reported its highest single-day toll of 3,689 Covid deaths. The country also saw a slight dip in the daily numbers with 3,92,488 new cases reported in the last 24 hours The new cases take India's Covid tally to 1,95,57,457.
The new cases recorded in the last 24 hours showed a slight dip from Saturday when India hit a global record in its daily Covid-19 numbers with 4,01,993 fresh cases.
The top five states which have registered maximum cases are Maharashtra with 63,282 cases, followed by Karnataka with 40,990 cases, Kerala with 35,636 cases, Uttar Pradesh with 30,180 cases and Delhi with 25,219 cases.
Of the news cases, 49.76 per cent are from these five states, with Maharashtra alone responsible for 16.12 per cent. Maximum casualties were also reported from Maharashtra with 802 deaths in the last 24 hours, followed by Delhi with 412 daily deaths.
The country currently has 33,49,644 active cases and the total death toll stands at 2,15,542. As many as 3,07,865 discharges have been made in the last 25 hours, which takes the total number of recovered cases to 1,59,92,271. A total of 15,68,16,031 people have been so far vaccinated in the country.
