Depression (Remnant of ‘YAAS’) over Jharkhand and adjoining Bihar


KalimNews, Kalimpong, 28 May 21 :  Regional Meteorological Centre Kolkata of Indian Meteorological Department notifies the followings as information and warning as updated from time to time.

Well Marked Low Pressure Area (Remnant of „YAAS‟) over Bihar and adjoining East Uttar Pradesh

The Depression (Remnant of Very Severe Cyclonic Storm ‘YAAS’) over south Bihar and adjoining Jharkhand moved north-northwestwards, weakened into a Well Marked Low Pressure Area and lay centred at 0530 hrs IST of today, the 28th May, 2021 over Bihar and adjoining East Uttar Pradesh. The system is very likely to move northwestwards and weaken further into a Low pressure area during next 12 hours.

Warnings:

(i) Rainfall:

➢Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim: Light to moderate rainfall at most places with heavy falls at isolated places over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim on 28th May.

Bihar:  Light to moderate rainfall at many places with heavy to very heavy falls at isolated places on 28th May.

East  Uttar Pradesh: Light to moderate rainfall at some places with heavy to very heavy falls at isolated places on 28th May.

(ii) Wind warning: Squally wind, speed reaching 30-40 kmph gusting to 50 kmph, would prevail over Bihar, East Uttar Pradesh, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim during next 12 hours and decrease gradually thereafter.

This is the last bulletin pertaining to this system. However, regular weather warning bulletins will continue from National Weather Forecasting Centre and all regional & state level forecasting centres of IMD.

Depression (Remnant of ‘YAAS’) over Jharkhand and adjoining Bihar
The Depression (Remnant of Very Severe Cyclonic Storm ‘YAAS’)over central parts of Jharkhand moved nearly northwards with a speed of about 21kmph during past 6 hours, and lay centred at 1730 hrs IST of today, the 27th May, 2021 over Jharkhand and adjoining Bihar near latitude 24.3°N and longitude 85.2°E, about and 100 km north of Ranchi (Jharkhand) and 150km south of Patna.
The system is very likely to move nearly northwards and weaken into a Well Marked Low pressure area during next 12 hours.

Warnings:
(i)  Light to moderate rainfall at most places over the districts of West Bengal. 
Orange Warning (Be Prepared) Heavy to very heavy rain with Extremely heavy rain very likely to occur over Malda, South Dinajpur and Darjeeling districts. 
Heavy to very heavy rain very likely to occur at isolated places over North Dinajpur, Kalimpong and Jalpaiguri districts. 
Heavy rain likely to occur over Coochbehar, Alipurduar Murshidabad, Birbhum, East & West Bardhaman, East & West Medinipur, Jhargram, Purulia, Bankura, Nadia, North & South 24 Parganas, Howrah, Hooghly and Kolkata districts.
(ii)Wind Warning:(Orange Warning) Squally wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph would prevail over West Bengal during next 12hours and decrease gradually thereafter..
(iii)Fishermen warning : The fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea till mid night of 27.05.2021. Damage expected & action suggested for Jharkhand and adjoining areas during next 12 hours:
Minor damage to thatched houses/ huts. 
Minor damage to power and communication lines.
Minor damage to Kutcha and some damage to Pucca roads.
Breaking of tree branches. Damage to banana and papaya trees. 
Localized inundation in low lying areas due to heavy rain
