HS board exams uncertain- If the Madhyamik exams are deferred or cancelled, the HS exams are also likely to be affected
If the Madhyamik exams are deferred or cancelled, the HS exams are also likely to be affected, officials of the WBCHSE informed today.
The WBBSE informed the school education department of the state that it is not possible to hold the Madhyamik exams which are scheduled to be held from 1 lune to 10 June.
The board has also sought the state government's decision as to whether the Madhyamik exams will be deferred or cancelled. Around 10 lakh candidates are supposed to appear for the exam this year.
According to sources in the board, suspension of local train services, lesser numbers of metros and fewer buses along with 50 per cent of the total strength of officials, could be problematic for teachers and students during the exams.
A meeting between the officials of the state government and the board was held but a final decision could not be taken.
After the WBBSE, the officials of the higher secondary board informed about the uncertainties over the exams, scheduled from 15 June this year. "The decision on higher secondary exams to some extent depends on the final call taken by the authorities to conduct the secondary exams," said Mahua Das, president of WBCHSE. "If Madhyamik exams are deferred or scrapped, the higher secondary examinations will also be postponed or cancelled. To us, the lives of teachers, students and other people concerned with the conducting exams, are a priority at this point of time," she added.
About 8.5 lakh students were to sit for the higher second my board exams in the state. According to the president of the board, whenever the exam is held, the present model of conducting it at the school will be followed.
