BJP got 39.42% of votes in the three Hill Assembly seats compared to 70.66 % of Lok Sabha election.


KalimNews, Kalimpong, 3 May 2021: During the Assembly Election 2021, out of the three Assembly seats of the Hills Bharatiya Janata Party won the two Assembly seats of Darjeeling and Kurseong while the other one seat of Kalimpong Assembly was won by Binay Anit faction of Gorkha Jana Mukti Morcha.

Niraj Zimba Tamang retained the Darjeeling seat for the second time as BJP candidate by a 21276 votes margin against his rival candidate Keshav Raj Sharma (Pokhrel) of Binay Anit faction of GJMM .Zimba got 68907 votes while Pokhrel got 47631.

First timer BJP candidate Bishnu Prasad Sharma (BP Bajgain) won the Kurseong Assembly seat  by a 15515 vote margin over nearest rival Tshering Lama (Dahal) of Binay Anit faction of GJMM. Sharma got 73475 votes while Dahal got 57960 votes.

In the Kalimpong Assembly seat Ruden Sada Lepcha of Binay Anit faction of GJMM beat his nearest rival Suva Pradhan of BJP by a margin of 3870 votes, the first victory for Binay Anit faction of GJMM in the Assembly election..

Lepcha secured 58206 votes while Pradhan got 54336 votes in their favour.

BJP secured 39.42% of the total votes polled in the three Hill Assembly seats while Binay Anit faction of GJMM polled 32.82% votes and Bimal Gurung faction of GJMM polled 20.68% votes. 

The total votes in favour of BJP was 196718, while GJMM of Binay Anit faction and Bimal Gurung faction got 163797 and 103190 votes respectively. 

In total GJMM (both factions combined) received 266987 votes ie 53.5 % of the total votes polled in the three Hill seats.

In the Lok Sabha Election 2019 BJP got a total of 338698 votes (70.66%) in the three constituencies-  96877 votes in Kalimpong while in Kurseong and Darjeeling constituencies it got 122393 and 119428 votes respectively.
