Help-desks to tackle Covid-19 in Hills: Covid19 help-desks would be set up to tackle the virus that has made a comeback in the region
SNS, DARJEELING. 18 APRIL 21 : The general Secretary of the Binoy Tamang faction of the Gorkha Jan Mukti Morcha, Anit Thapa, has said Covid19 help-desks would be set up to tackle the virus that has made a comeback in the region. He also appealed to all to join hands to tight the pandemic once again.
Thanking people of Darjeeling and Kalimpong Hills for the smooth and peaceful conduct of the Assembly elections yesterday, Mr Thapa, who has been removed by the Election Commission as the chairman of the Board of Administrators of the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration until the election model code of conduct is in place, said a more virulent corona virus had returned.
"I have seen reports from our area. People have started to panic. Nursing homes in Siliguri are filled with Covid-19 patients and even in our Triveni Covid hospital (near Kalimpong) more than 21 Covid- infected people have been admitted," Mr Thapa said in a press note he released here today.
"We were busy in election campaigns, due to which we hardly paid any attention to the growing pandemic. Now that the election is over, it is time for us to go back to society and serve the people.
"We are going to start Covid help-desks in all sub-divisions. I appeal to all the surveillance committee formed last time in all our 45 Samastis to activate themselves again. We will be forming the help-desks' phone numbers public by tomorrow," he added.
According to him, many Covid patients are not able to share their fears and those in need of help are not getting it. "Doctors and nurses at hospitals are working very hard. They too are not getting any help. They need the help and support of the society," Mr Thapa said.
"Last year, we worked in unison and were able to tackle the situation well. The same unity is needed this tune too. We served the people irrespective of caste, creed and political affiliation. Now is the time for us to be more active," he added.
"When I was the BoA Chairman, l worked like a simple citizen. To serve, you don't need position. What you need is zeal, passion and desire to serve. I request all organisations, NGOs to come forward and work together to save our Hills and people from Covid," he added.
