Special Correspondent   |  TT  |  New Delhi   |  22.04.21: Central paramilitary forces deployed across the country have recorded 3,700 Covid-19 cases amid the sharp surge in the second wave of the pandemic.

Over 1 lakh paramilitary personnel are deployed in Bengal for the ongoing Assembly polls.

The BSF (Border Security Force) has registered 1,864 cases, followed by 837 cases in the CISF (Central Industrial Security Force) and close to 650 cases have been reported in the CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force). 

Likewise, the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) has recorded 186 cases followed by 125 cases in the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), 28 cases in the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and 14 in the National Security Guards (NSG).

Since last year, the CRPF has reported 15,791 cases, the BSF has recorded 15,278 cases and the CISF has registered 11,682 cases till now.

The SSB has reported a total of 5,758 cases and the ITBP has recorded 4,767 cases so far. 

The NDRF has recorded 664 cases and the NSG has registered 358 cases in its ranks.

“Since last year the CRPF has reported 87 deaths due to Covid-19, including 10 casualties this year. The BSF has suffered 51 casualties due to the pandemic so far, including six this year. The CISF has suffered the loss of 49 personnel, including one in March and four in April this year,” said an official of the Union home ministry.

So far the central paramilitary forces have lost 215 jawans in the past one year because of Covid-19.
