Pedong gets its first fuel filling station

Don't Miss

SNS, SILIGURI, 14 FEBRUARY 21 : Pedong, a small town near Kalimpong, got its first fuel filling station last Wednesday when noted educationist in the region, Dr GS Yonzone, and his family members inaugurated the Dolma Fuel Service Station, much to the relief of vehicle owners and transporters, both in the government and private sectors.

According to Dr Yonzone, transport services in and around Pedong had been suffering for the past several decades for want of such fuel station that would cater to their daily needs.

He said one had to cover a distance of about 20 km to Kalimpong town for fuel, while life of vehicles stood cut short due to use of alleged adulterated fuel leading to huge economic losses every year.

Transport operators and representatives of agencies in large numbers attended the inaugural function, along with local dignitaries.

"All of them expressed their deep sense of gratitude and love to the leadership espoused by Dr Yonzone in public and national interest," said a vehicle owner, who attended the inaugural event.

According to Engineer Rumit Lepcha, who represented the Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), Dr Yonzone and his son Jivaka Yonzone worked hard during the past five years in setting up the fuel station to ultimately come up for the service of the people.

"The stage is now well set for other facilities such as insurance, money transfer and/ATM, etc that will be a part of this Dolma Fuel Station," Ms Lepcha said.

According to Dr Yonzone, education that one acquires in life is for development and not for any other futile exercises.

"This fuel station is precisely a practical demonstration of this linkage. We hope to initiate other enterprises too in the near future," he said.
