In Parliament, Bista seeks PPS for Hills, Terai, Dooars

SNS, SILIGURI, 12 FEBRUARY 21 :
Darjeding MP Raju Bista once again raised issues related to people in the Hills, Terai and Dooars in Parliament today, and demanded implementation of the promised 'Permanent Political Solution' (PPS).
Speaking during the ongoing Budget Session or Parliament, MP Bista showcased the glory of Darjeeling, and said: "Darjeeling was famous worldwide as a Hill station and it is proud of our country for its natural beauty, tea plantations. It is Darjeeling where electricity was introduced first of all and Toy Train is another pride there after recognition from the UNESCO. It was an educational hub and many students from neighbouring countries used to go there for studies. Though Darjeeling is also rich in arts, culture and literature, owing to continuous reluctant role of the state government, panchayat elections have not been conducted over the past 15 years. As a result, people of the Hills have been deprived of their rights to get government's assistance estimating to over Rs 1,600 crore."
Addressing the Speaker in the House, Mr Bista further said: "My party has mentioned about a Permanent Political Solution for the region in 2019. People of Darjeeling, Terai and Dooars have been demanding such permanent political solution. Drawing your kind attention, I wish the implementation of the proposed PPS within the provisions of the Indian Constitution so that the people of the region get justice."
On other hand, Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri said two towns- -Siliguri and Darjeeling--in Darjeeling district have come under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) scheme and 14 of the 18 projects have already been completed.  "The remaining projects are to be completed during the year 2021," Mr Puri added while replying to questions raised by Mr Bista.
Mr Bista sought details of projects under the AMRUT Yojana currently ongoing in the districts of Darjeeling and Kalimpong, the details of funds allocated for the projects and the status of the projects and the estimated timeline for their completion.
