Thapa marches for 'change' He propagates 'change from disturbance to peace, bad governance to good governance'

SNS, DARJEELING. 26 DECEMBER 20: As he marched from Sonada to Darjeeling, a distance of 16 km, Gorkha Jan Mukti Morcha leader Anit Thapa today maintained that the 'march for change' was a journey towards change from disturbance to peace, bad governance to good governance and against autocratic policies, among other things.

The 'march of change' witnessed thousands of Morcha supporters of the Binoy Tamang camp taking part in it, which later ended in a public meeting at the Motor Stand here.

"The padyatra was not organised for votes or Gorkhland, but to show how true politics should be done. I have not come here to scold or talk about others, but I want to use the energy for the development of the hills," Mr Thapa told the meeting in Darjeeling town. According to him, they have been working for the Hills with the help of the state government and that the same would continue. "We should work with the slogan 'our home is in our hands' and we should stand on our own feet," he said.

"We want intellectuals to come forward to lead. They should be the ones to run Lalkothi (GTA headquarters) and become MLAs, while we work for the people in the streets," Mr Thapa added.

The Morcha leader also criticized the leader of the other faction of the Morcha, Bimal Gurung.

"The person that is roaring now is making false roars. He is just acting. We should give our introduction through our karma and not by putting pictures in the flag," said Mr Thapa, without naming Mr Gurung, while also claiming that they had brought things in the Hills like the Covid hospital and state university, while he also said that Mr Gurung, during his term, had done nothing.

According to him, Morcha leaders and supporters from the other camp who had been displaced were following the wrong leader and that the Tamang faction's doors were open for them.

Mr Thapa also maintained that he will stay in Darjeeling for some time now, as he was their guardian, and that the other camp should try and chase him away.

He also took potshots at the MP and said, "It is only during the elections that the BJP, remembers the Gorkhas. They are now talking about tribal status, but why had they done nothing about it in the past few years even after the Bengal CM had recommended it? These air only false assurances they are giving."
