SNS,
KURSEONG, 2 DECEMBER 2020:  The Chairman of the Board of Administrators, Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA), Anit Thapa, today announced the use of Nepali language in all official programmes of the GTA.
Addressing an inaugural programme of the renovated Community Hall at Park Location in Kurseong today, Mr Thapa said we always talk about our community and language, but we do not put the language into practice. "As such, to respect our Nepali Iangunge, we should implement it and put it in practice," he said.
"Accordingly, in addition to the English language, the Nepall Ianguage will also be written and used officially in programmes of the GTA," he added. He also asked the GTA Principal Secretary to issue an official notification on the matter.
According to Mr Thapa, a social worker and literary figure from Kurseong who attended today's programme, advised him that focus should be laid on our language.
"As the banner or festoon for today's programme was written in English, the person advised Mr Thapa to focus more on the Nepali language. Accordingly, accepting the advice, Mr Thapa immediately decided to make such a decision," a source said.
Talking about the renovated Community Hall, Mr Thapa said that it had been built by the then chief of the Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council (DGHC), the Late Subash Ghisingh. "People of Kurseong should take care of this hall," he said.
While the hall was in a dilapidated state for the past few years, renovation work was undertaken one year ago jointly by the GTA and the Kurseong Municipality at a project cost of Rs 64,86,226 lakh, it is learnt.
