Siliguri BJP-cops clash death: Post-mortem fails to take place

SNS, SILIGURI, 9 DECEMBER 2020: The second post-mortem of BJP activist Ulen Roy could not be conducted today. Sources at the North Bengal Medical College and Hospital said that apart from the three doctors, who had conducted the first post-mortem, there were no other doctors present today.

Following a petition filed by Roy's sister, the chief judicial magistrate's court in Jalpaiguri had ordered a second autopsy of the body of Roy who was killed in a clash with the police during the BJP's Uttarkanya march' in Siliguri on Monday.

"Those three doctors had performed the first autopsy, but we wanted to know from the health department in the morning, whether the same doctors would perform the fresh autopsy or the doctors from other medical colleges will do this, because there is no other doctor here. But we did not get any response, therefore, it could not be conducted today. The body has been kept in the morgue. It is likely to be done tomorrow," the sources said.

Asok seeks probe

Siliguri MLA Asok Bhattacharya has demanded a high-level and impartial invastigation into the death of BJP activist Ullen Roy. "An innocent person has been killed in the name of a march to Uttarkanya. It should be looked into whether the BJP was responsible for the incident. I have doubts and apprehension that it might have done to highlight itself before the media and to confuse the people. If police had actually opened fire and if it is proved in the investigations, then they should be punished.There should be a high-level, impartial inquiry over the incident. Those behind the incident should be unmasked. The chief minister has to take the responsibility if police are found guilty. If the BJP is proved responsible, then there should be stringent punishment," Mr Bhattacharya said.

"If politics goes to this level to gain from the death of a person, then I must say that West Bengal is headed for an unfortunate phase," he added.The statement from the senior CPI-M leader comes at a time when both the BJP and the Trinamul Congress are accusing each other of killing Roy.
