Army saves Sikkim village from fire

SNS, SILIGURI ,
27 NOVEMBER 2020 : The Indian Army averted a major fire incident in the remote village of Yak La in East Sikkim district early this morning.

According to the Army. the Army Camp at Yak Lawas alerted and troops of the Trishakti Corps immediately rushed to the site of the incident.

"Timely response by the fire-fighting party of the local Army troops helped contain the spread of the fire. The troops without caring for their own safety, quickly formed a human chain from the water point to the incident site, while a water bowser was immediately pressed into action along with other fire-fighting equipment and sand. The fire was contained and not allowed to spread to neighbouring houses," the Army said in a statement today.

"In spite of inclement weather, the troops in the finest traditions of the Indian Army worked relentlessly to save human lives and material, and the fire was brought under control by 0330 hours," it added.
