Two die in Siliguri, Darjeeling reports 104 fresh Covid cases

The fresh cases included 49 in the Siliguri Municipal Corporation

SNS, SILIGURI, 16 OCTOBER 2020 : Two persons died at the designated hospital for Covid-19 patients at Kawakhali in Siliguri today.

An 81 year-old resident of Darjeeling Hills died at the hospital. He had been referred from another dedicated hospital in the Hills at Triveni on 13 October.

A 70-year-old resident from Falakata, Alipurduar district died at the hospital. He had been admitted to the hospital on 12 October.

In Malda, a total of 102 samples, 88 RT-PCR at the VRDL in Malda Medical College and Hospital and 14 by rapid antigen tests, were tested COVID positive last night in Malda. Ratua-I had 22 cases while EBM had 20 and Habibpur 15 with other blocks having the rest cases. Before puja the experts have already expressed their fear over the spike in cases for an unrest rained social contact s among people thereby ruling out norms to be maintained during pandemic crisis.

On the other hand, 46 people fresh detected as COVID positive in last 24 hours in different blocks of North Dinajpur district. Total 4,275 persons were affected of this virus so far in the district. According to the officials of district health office 43 persons died yet so far. In last three days no mortality was reported.

In South Dinajpur, 60 patients with COVID 19 infection has been detected in the past 24 hours. On the other hand 42 patients has been discharged. As the number of COVID patients isgoing high every day in the district. The total number goes up to 6071. Total recovered patients 5701. The number of active patients 328 among them 206 is in home isolation. On Friday also total test done 1400.

Meanwhile, Darjeeling district reported 104 Covid-19 cases today, sources said. The fresh cases included 49 in the Siliguri Municipal Corporation, two in Darjeeling Municipality, five in Kharibari, five in Kurseong Municipality, five in Sukna, 17 in Matigara, four in Mirik, 12 in Naxalbari, four in Phansidewa, and one in Sukhia Pokhari.

Separately, the Jalpaiguri portion of the SMC recorded 19 new cases, the sources said. Also today, 70 Covid patients either ended their home isolation period or were discharged from hospital.
