Three die in Siliguri; dip in Malda, South Dinajpur Covid cases

113 new Covid cases in Darjeeling district


SNS, SILIGURI, 19 OCTOBER 2020 : Three persons, including two Siliguri residents, died at two separate designated hospitals for Covid-19 patients in the past 24 hours, sources said. A 77 year-old resident of Pradhannagar died at the hospital at Matigara yesterday.A 70-year-old resident of NJP area died at the Kawakahli-based hospital today A 50-year-old person of Islampur, who had been referred to the same hospital from the North Bengal Medical College and Hospital, also died there last evening.

113 new Covid cases in Darjeeling district

Meanwhile, Darjeeling district recorded 113 & Covid 19 cases today, which included 40 in the Siliguri Municipality, four in Darjeeling, Municipality five in Kharibari, one in Kurseong Municipality, three in Sukna, 17 in Matigra, five in Mirik, 22 in Naxalbari, seven in Phansidewa, one in Pulbazaar/Bijanbari, six in SukhiaPokhari, and two in Takdah, sources said. Seventeen cases were also detected in the Jalpaiguri portion of the SMC. Also today, 60 patients were either discharged from hospitals or they ended their home isolation.

58 in Malda

Malda district today witnessed a dip in cases of covid-19, with only 58 cases detected in tests conducted at the VRDL in the Malda Medical College and Hospital last night. Sources said they had tested 634 fresh samples yesterday. Among the new cases, 19 were from the English Bazaar area alone, while nine were from Manikchak.

The remaining cases were spread across other blocks of the district.

23 in South Dinajpur

South Dinajpur district too detected only 23 new cases of Covid-19 today, sources said. The total number of cases in the district has now gone up to 6262.

On the other hand, 29 patients were released from the Covid hospital after treatment, taking the number of recovered patients to 5810. Six new patients were detected in the Balurghat Municipality area. The number of active cases in the district now stands at 408, while 305 of them are in home isolation, officials said.
