Six more die in Siliguri; 114 fresh Covid cases in Darjeeling district

Mother ofthe baby girl also died in NBMCH


SNS, SILIGURI, 21 OCTOBER 2020: A day after the death of her four-day-old daughter, a woman, who had tested positive for Covid-19, also died in the North Bengal Medical College and Hospital today, sources said. She was a resident of Nagrakata in Jalpaiguri district. Source said that the baby, however, tested negative for the virus.

An assistant sub-inspector of the traffic police, Siliguri, also died in Siliguri today. Sources said he had been tested positive for Covid-19.Also today, a 40-year old resident of Dhupguri in Jalpaiguri district died at the designated hospital for Covid19 patients at Matigara in Siliguri today.

Sources further said that a 64-year-old resident of Raiganj in North Dinajpur district died in the Desun (Covid) Hospital in Siliguri today, while a 56-year-old person from Ghogomali in Siliguri, who had tested positive for Covid-19, died in the NBMCH, and a person aged around 30 from Mathabhanga in Cooch Behar died at Dr Chhang's Covid Hospital.

Meanwhile, Darjeeling district recorded 114 new Covid cases today, sources said. Thre fresh cases included 32 in the Siliguri Municipal Corporation, two in Darjeeling Municipality, four in Kharibari, 14 in Kurseong Municipality, four in Sukna, 32 in Matigara, 15 in Naxalbari, nine in Phansidewa, one in Pulbazaar/Bijanbari, and one in Takdah, sources said.

A total of 17 cases were also detected in the Jalpaiguri portion of the SMC.

Also today, 31 Covid patients either ended their home isolation or were discharged from hospitals. the sources said.

95 new cases in Malda district

Malda, on the other hand, saw a spike with 95 cases of Covid- 19 in tests conducted yesterday. While 78 caseswere detected in tests at the Malda Medical College and Hospital, 17 were detected through rapid antigen tests, sources said. Among the new infections, the English Bazaar area had 29 cases, while 18 were in Habibpur.

The remaining cases were spread across different blocks in the district, sources said.
