134 fresh cases in Darjeeling district, Malda records 115 new cases
SNS, SILIGURI, 22 OCTOBER 2020 : Six persons who had tested positive for Covid-19 died in Siliguri today, sources said.
Two persons died at Dr Chhang's (Covid) Hospital, while two others died in the North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH).
A senior administrative officer of Sitalkuchi block in Cooch Behar district also died in a private hospital here today, sources said.
A 30-year-old resident of Matigara died at the hospital at Matigara in the wee hours today, along with a 74-year-old resident of Kalimpong.
A 63-year-old person of Lake TOWN and a 30-year-old of Shanti Para in Siliguri died at the NBMCH. A 38-year old person of Jalpaiguri district also died in a private nursing home.
Meanwhile, Darjeeling district Trinamul Congress president Ranjan Sarkar has contracted the virus. He is undergoing treatment in a private nursing home, where his condition is stated to be stable.
134 fresh cases in Darjeeling district
Darjeeling district recorded a whopping 134 fresh cases of Covid-19 today, sources said. The fresh cases included 50 in the Siliguri Municipal Corporation, 11 in Darjeeling Municipality, four in Kharibari, four in Kurseong Municipality, five in Sukna, 28 in Matigara, one in Mirik, 20 in Naxalbari, four in Phansidewa, four in Pulbazaar/ Bijanbari, two in Sukhia Pokhari, and one in Takdah.
A total of 31 cases were also detected in the Jalpaiguri portion of the SMC, the sources said.
Officials, however, said that the fresh cases may contain some "repeat positive cases," and that they are being verified.
Also today, 77 Covid-19 patients in Darjeeling district were either discharged from hospitals or they ended their home isolation.
Malda records 115 new cases
Malda recorded 115 fresh Covid-cases in the past 24 hours, sources said.The number of daily infection has now remained around 100 in the past 15 days, with 107 detected last night in tests conducted at the VRDL in the Malda Medical College and Hospital. Another eight cases were found through rapid antigen tests. The total number of cases in Malda is now near the 9000 mark, with 73 deaths so far and around 1000 active cases, sources said.
