Six die in Siliguri; 97 Covid cases in Darj dist
40 Covid patients either ended their home isolation or were discharged from hospitals.
SNS, SILIGURI, 28 OCTOBER 2020 : Six persons who had tested positive for Covid- 19 died in Siliguri in the past 24 hours, sources said.
An 80 year-old woman from Binnaguri in Jalpaiguri district died at the Desun (Covid) Hospital last evening. She had been admitted to the hospital on 22 October. A 60 - year- old resident of North Dinajpur district also died at the health facility today. He had been admitted there on 26 October.
A 72 year-old resident of Kurseong in Darjeeling died at Dr Chhang's (Covid) Hospital at Matigara last evening, while a 60-year-old person from Kalimpong also died there today, sources said.
On the other hand, a 30 year-old resident of Sahudangi in Siliguri died in the North Bengal Medical College and hospital today, along with a 12-year-old resident of Dalkhola in North Dinajpur district.
Darjeeling district, meanwhile, reported 97 Covid- 19 cases today, including 24 in the Siliguri Municipal Corporation, three in Darjeeling Municipality, three in Kharibari, four in Sukna, one in Kursong Municipality, 30 in Matigara, one in Mirik, five in Naxalbari, 23 in Phansidewa, two in Pulbazaar/Bijanbar i, and one in Sukhia Pokhari, sources said.
Seven cases were also detected in the Jalpaiguri portion of the SMC, they added.
Also today, 40 Covid patients either ended their home isolation or were discharged from hospitals.
Malda dip continues
Meanwhile, the dip in the infection rate in Malda continued today with only 32 fresh cases detected in tests conducted last night, sources said.
While 10 of the new cases were found through the RTPCR tests at the VRDL in the Malda Medical College and Hospital, the remaining were detected through rapid antigen tests.
While experts had expressed fears of a surge in the Covid cases during and after the Pujas that ended on Monday, the figures have so far remained "satisfactory, though the actual effect of the puja celebrations are yet to come," sources said. Eleven of the fresh cases were from areas under the English Bazaar Municipality.
