Bimal go back' slogans in Tamang camp's K'pong rally

Our leaders Binoy Tamang and Anit Thapa have maintained peace in the hills and we will not tolerate the Bimal Gurung faction creating disturbances here

SNS, DARJEELING. 28 OCTOBER 2020 : Amid developments in Hill politics after the appearance of Gorkha Jan Mukti Morcha leader Bimal Gurung in Kolkata recently, the other faction of the Morcha led by Binoy Tamang today organised a rally and held a street corner meeting in Kalimpong town as part of the faction's show of strength in the Hills.

Such rallies protesting Mr Gurung's possible return to the Hills have already been held in Darjeeling a few days ago with theTamang camp claiming that the same is being done to send across a message of peace.

"Our leaders Binoy Tamang and Anit Thapa have maintained peace in the hills and we will not tolerate the Bimal Gurung faction creating disturbances here. If they want to come back to the hills, they can do that but they must not break the peace," said Amir Basset, a leader of the Tamang faction of the Morcha.

Such rallies started in the hills after a poster was recently found at the entranee of the Tamang camp's party office at Damber Chowk in Kalimpong, which read that the people of the hills welcome Bimal Gurung and that they would start using the party office there. The poster also maintained that a "river of blood would flow" if anyone tried to oppose the move. The poster was signed as 'Bimal Premi.'

Today' s rally in Kalimpong started at the Mela Ground and went round the town area and ended with a corner meeting at Damber Chowk. Hundreds of Morcha (Tamang camp) supporters took part in it. Slogans of 'Bimal Gurung murdabad' and' Bimal Gurung go back' were heard in the rally.

Meanwhile, the Morcha (Gurung camp) also lodged a complaint at the Kalimpong police station yesterday, alleging that some miscreants had pasted the posters in the party's name.

"The poster was pasted on 25 October by some miscreants under our name. We have lodged an FIR here and demanded that those behind it be arrested as they are trying to take advantage of the present situation. We have always believed in peace and will continue to move forward in that path," said Topden Bhutia, a Morcha leader of the Gurung camp.
