Four die in Siliguri After respite, Malda sees a spike

Darjeeling district, found 91 fresh Covid cases ,Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC) recorded 49 cases, 94 new cases in Malda- 46 in South Dinajpur

SNS, SILIGURI, 16 SEPTEMBER 2020:  Four persons, including two residents of Cooch Behar district, died at the dedicated hospital for Covid- 19 patients at Kawakhali, desun Hospital, in Siliguri in the past 24 hours, sources said. A 46-year-old resident of Darjeeling Hills died there yesterday, while a 70-year old resident of Cooch Behar admitted yesterday died today.
Another 62-year-old resident of the same district who also had been admitted yesterday died today.
A 79-year-old woman also died in the hospital today.
Darjeeling district, meanwhile, found 91 fresh Covid cases in the past 24 hours. Areas under the Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC) recorded 49 cases, of which 26 cases were in places falling in Darjeeling district, sources said.
Eighteen cases were detected in Naxalbari, 16 in Matigara and five cases in Phansidewa blocks.
Eight cases were traced in Mirik, eight at Sukna, four in Darjeeling Municipality areas, three in Pul Bazaar, two at Sukhia Pokhari and one case in Kurseong Municipality, they added.
At the same time, 31 patients have either been discharged from hospitals or have completed their home isolation today, official sources said.
94 new cases in Malda
Meanwhile, after some respite for the past several days, Malda saw a sharp increase in the number of Covid- 19 cases today, when the VRDL in the Malda Medical College and Hospital tested 94 samples positive out of the 124 3 samples last night, sources said. Most of the cases among these were from Habibpur (25), while Bamangola had 13 and the English Bazaar Municipality and the English Bazaar Block had 11 cases each. Fresh cases were repotted in almost all the Blocks of the district, the sources said. Malda now has around 5800 cases in total with 50 deaths and around 600 active cases.
46 in South Dinajpur
Forty-six new Covid patients were detected in South Dinajpur district in the past 24 hours, sources said. The total number of Covid cases in the district has now gone up to 4613.
The samples were collected on 14 and 15 of September in different swab collection centres and camps organised by the health department, it is learnt. While no death was reported in the past 24 hours in the district, the number of recovered patients so far stands at 4203, officials said.
