More cases in the hills- GTA extends lockdown for seven more days- one death in Tribeni hospital

SNS, DARJEELING. 1 AUGUST 2020: Given the rising number of Covid- 19 cases in areas under the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA), the lockdown at different places under the GTA, which was supposed to end tonight, has been extended by seven more days.
"Today was the last day of the ongoing seven-day lock-down in the municipality areas in the GTA, along with places where cases had been reported. However, looking at the increase in the number of Covid cases, along with deaths also being reported, a meeting was held with the District Magistrate and the GTA principal secretary today, where we decided to extend the lockdown in these areas for seven more days," GTA Chairman Anit Thapa said.
According to Mr Thapa, one person who had tested positive for Covid-19 in the Sonada area near Kurseong had died yesterday.
Sources said that the seventy-four-year- old had fever yesterday and was taken to the hospital in Darjeeling and then to the Tribeni Covid hospital, where he died.
Mr Thapa also said that eight persons had freshly tested positive for the novel coronavirus in the Kurseong sub-division.
According to him, the lock-down would be extended in municipality areas in Kalimpong, Darjeeling, Mirik and Kurseong, along with other places like Tindharia, Bijanbari, Sukhia, Sonada and the Chinmey-Deorali area, which have been declared containment zones.
In the Kalimpong sub-division, two more positive cases were reported today from Malli and one fromThakurbari area, sources said.
In Kurseong, sources said that the fresh cases were found in Naya Bazaar (four cases), Hill Cart Road   ( I), Upper Dumaran Busti (1), and two in Bagghora on the outskirts of the town.
