TT | Siliguri | 22.07.20 : Torrential downpour continued in north Bengal on Monday night and Tuesday, causing waterlogging in Alipurduar and Cooch Behar towns.
In Alipurduar, almost all the 20 wards got waterlogged as the town saw 295mm of rain in 24 hours till 8.30am on Tuesday. The civic body arranged pumps to clear the water. Many families were shifted to safer places. Heavy rain affected plucking in many tea estates, sources said.
Other areas with heavy rain include Kumargram (160mm), Falakata (140mm), Mathabhanga (100mm), Sevoke (100mm) and Cooch Behar (90mm).
The swollen Torsha river started to erode land in wards 16, 18 and 19 of Cooch Behar town from Tuesday.

On Tuesday afternoon, a youth drowned in the Torsha.
In Malda, the Ganga started eroding farmland in Kaliachak-III block.
Weathermen in Calcutta forecast heavy rain in the next couple of days in Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Kalimpong, Cooch Behar and Alipurduar.

Seven people missing in Teesta swim to safety
TT | Jalpaiguri | 22.07.20 : All seven persons who had gone missing in the swollen Teesta after a boat capsize on Monday evening swam safely to Mouamari, a dry portion of the riverbed close to the right bank, and took shelter there at night.
The capsize occurred when they had been returning their homes in Champadanga on the left bank of the river in Malbazar. Disaster management teams had launched a search in the river but called off the operation when they learnt all were safe.
Later, they were brought here for medical examination and sent back home.
