Oli faces party anger over ‘India plot’ slur -Top leaders of the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) demands his resignation

Nepal Prime Minister KP Sharma OliTT |  New Delhi   |  01.07.20 : Nepal Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli on Tuesday drew flak from his own party for jeopardising ties with India by accusing New Delhi of conspiring to oust him from office.

Oli had on Sunday said plots were being hatched in India and at the Indian embassy in Kathmandu to remove him as Prime Minister for pushing ahead with a new map that included three areas in India — Kalapani, Limpiyadhura and Lipu Lekh — as Nepali territory.

Nepali media reported that top leaders of the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) — including its joint chair and former Premier Pushpa Kamal Dahal — demanded his resignation at a party meeting.

Dahal was quoted by The Kathmandu Post as saying that it was not India but he who wants Oli removed not only as Prime Minister but also co-chair of the NCP.

Oli has been facing severe criticism within his party and from outside for a slew of issues, including the handling of the pandemic.

He was momentarily able to silence all critics with his map move but now that the cartographic change is a done deal, his political troubles are back.
