NBU works out formula to calculate final result -The varsity decides to give blanket promotions to students pursuing the intermediate semesters

North Bengal UniversityBinita Paul   |   TT   |   Siliguri   |   03.07.20   :   The North Bengal University has drawn up a formula to assign marks to papers in the final semesters of undergraduate and postgraduate courses as exams cannot be held because of Covid-19.

The varsity also decided to give blanket promotions to students pursuing the intermediate semesters. The final-year students, NBU officials said, will receive their results by the end of July.

Any student pursuing a three-year UG honours course has to appear in eight honours papers. They include two papers each in first and second years (or in the first four semesters) and four papers in the final year (or the fifth and final semesters).

“We will add the highest marks in first and second years and then calculate the average. Then, 80 per cent of the average mark is added to 20 per cent of internal assessment,” said Debasish Dutta, the controller of examinations at the NBU.

According to sources, all colleges under the NBU were asked to keep answer scripts of internal exams which the varsity may require.

Final marks of students of PG or professional courses like law, management and teacher’s training shall also be evaluated by giving 80 per cent weightage to the best of the aggregates of the previous semesters and 20 per cent weightage on the basis of assignment-based evaluation, said a varsity official.

“If students are not satisfied with the marks and want to appear in exams, they can approach the varsity,” said Dutta.
