25 of N Dinajpur marriage party get infected - Two more die in Siliguri; 49 discharged from hospital

SNS, SILIGURI, 12 JULY 2020 : Panic spread among villagers in North dinajpur district after 25 persons in the Raniganj Gram Panchayat under the Karandighi police station were tested positive for Covid-19 today. The number of people affected by Covid-19 has now gone up to 420 in the district.
According to sources, the 25 persons may have been infected in a marriage party they had attended a few days ago in their locality. It is learnt that a man who had attended the same marriage party had tested positive for the virus a few days ago.
"Throat swab samples of several others who attended the party were also taken after that, and 25 of them have tested positive," sources said.
On the other hand, 20 persons have tested positive in different wards in the Raiganj municipality so far. In their efforts to contain the spread of the virus, authorities of the Raiganj Municipality and the district administration have started awareness campaigns among the residents and reminding them about the need to follow guidelines and restrictions and maintain social distancing.
"A total of 20 residents in our municipality have been affected so far. However, 11 of them have already been cured. We have found people violating the physical distancing norm in some markets, and we have started intensive campaigns among the locals. We are also urging them to wear masks," Chairman of the Raiganj Municipality, Sandip Biswas, said.
In Siliguri, two persons who had tested positive for Covid-19 died at two separate nursing homes. A 78-year old woman of Ward 17 died at a nursing home at Pradhannagar last night, while her throat swab sample report today confirmed she had Covid-19.
A 67-year-old resident of Salugara, who was admitted in another private nursing home at Pradhannagar on 7 July, also died late last night. His swab sample report also showed he had tested positive for the coronavirus.
Meanwhile, around 29 new cases were recorded in the SMC area in the past 24 hours. Ward 31 has four cases , while two cases were reported in Ward 14. A health worker of the civic body and a resident of the ward has been infected there, sources said.
Officials today said that 49 patients were discharged from Covid hospitals in Siliguri today after they recovered.
45 fresh cases in Malda
In Malda, 45 fresh cases were detected in tests conducted in the VRDL in the Malda Medical College and Hospital (MMCI I) last night.
The cases include 18 from the English Bazaar Municipality area. The total number of affected in the district has now gone up to 1155, officials said.
The BJP MLA from Baishnabnagar was also tested positive tor the virus and he has been sent in home isolation. "He had mild symptoms of fever and sore throat, BJP sources said. The other fresh cases were from other blocks like Kaliachak and Gazole, sources said.
21 more in S Dinajpur
In South Dinajpur district, 21 persons were freshly tested positive for the coronavirus tests conducted in the MMCH last night.
Six of the new cases are from Balurghat. Three others are from Gangarampur, two from Kumarganj, three front Harirampur and five from Tapan, sources said.The total number of persons affected by Covid in the district has gone up to 325, while 235 of them have been discharged after treatment so far. "There are 90 active cases, and most of them are in safe houses at the Gangarampur stadium and Balurghat Natyacharcha Kendra," a source said.
