She went further to say, "People have been betrayed. During this time of COVID, people are indulging in politics."

Addressing media persons on Wednesday, the West Bengal CM said that schools in the state are likely to remain shut till July. "We have announced that the schools will remain shut till June but I am sure it will have to be extended to July too," Mamata Banerjee said.

She added that the state government had to allow shops to reopen "or else how would people have survived?"

West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee also urged private schools in the state not to hike fee this year. "People do not have money on hand. First note bandi, and now ghar bandi. In such a scenario, we have to continue functioning," she said.

As of June 9, West Bengal reported 8,985 confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus. Out of these, ,950 were identified as active cases while 3,620 patients recovered from the infection. The state has recorded 415 Covid-19 casualties to date. In addition, the devastation caused by cyclone Amphan also posed an unprecedented challenge to the people of West Bengal.
