Covid-19 Today- 8 May 2020..... Death tally 88 in state, 1886 in the country.. more patients are being released after recovery

KalimNews, Kalimpong, 8 May 2020: Since 2nd April 2020 there is not a single case of Covid-19 in Kalimpong district and the last case of Darjeeling district was reported on 14th April.

Tracing of contacts of a Covid-19 patient with suspected link to Mungpoo and admitted in Malda Covid hospital is in the process. While tracing the contacts of a Coochbehar patient who had been engaged as a mason in Mungpoo under a contractor. His travel history and contacts starting from Mungpoo via Alipurduar, Karisal of Coochbehar to Kokrajhar of Assam is being traced out. It is presumed that his link with Munpoo is very faint.

DAILY REPORT 

NORTH BENGAL 
One of the two patients of Malda, a 60 year old lady admitted in Dr. Chang's Super specialty Covid-19 Hospital located at Siliguri since 29 April has tested negative and released today.  
Rest of the 7 Covid-19 patients being treated at Dr. Chang’s Covid-19 tested positive in their second test. They are stable since day 1 and donot belong to the districts of Darjeeling and Kalimpong.

The 7 are, an eye specialist doctor of North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (resident of Kolkata), 4 of a family (1 of Kamakhyaguri and 1 of Barobisha of Alipurduar and 2 are residents of Coochbehar), 1 from Malda and 1 ambulance driver of Chennai who drove a person on 27 April from Chennai to Tripura via Assam and on his return was stopped at Dhupguri and tested positive. 

As both tests of all 27 co-traveller doctors and nurses of Covid-19 positive doctor came to be negative, they may be released only after the third test coming negative. They are kept in Amit Agarwala quarantine centre near NBMCH.

2 patients of Jalpaiguri and Khoribari are admitted in the isolation of maternity ward of NBMCH, another 1 expectant mother waiting for her surgery is suspected to have Covid-19 symptoms and admitted at surgical isolation, all 3 are waiting for test result.

19 patients admitted in Desun (SARI) Hospital for similar to Covid-19 symptoms, tested Covid-19 negative after recovery are released today and there are 6 more patients under observation/ treatment. 
1 patient from Rangli Tea Estate of Darjeeling district is admitted and under observation, since yesterday.

Several suspected people coming from other states and reaching north Bengal are admitted in different government designated Severe Acute Respiratory Illness (SARI) hospitals but test result of all came to be negative.

GTA 
At quarantine centre of ITI, Upper Fagu Gorubathan under Kalimpong district, 3 persons are admitted for quarantine.
1 person in Batasia TB centre, and 3 in Old Railway Hospital of Kurseong are undergoing quarantine. 
With the home coming of students and other people from other states, the number of people in self quarantine at their residence in the district of Darjeeling is increased from 295 to 310 while in Kalimpong district it is increased from 193 to 236. 

STATE 


A low-priced COVID-19 testing kit designed by a group of researchers in West Bengal has received the approval of ICMR, and would soon be employed to examine samples, an official statement said on Thursday.
In the state 130 (yesterday-92) new cases and 9 (yesterday-7) death is recorded today and the total number of confirmed Covid-19 in West Bengal is 1678 (yesterday-1548) while active cases is 1195 (yesterday-1101) and death toll till now is 88. There is 72 death due to Co-morbidity while 323 (yesterday-296) are released after recovery.

The testing of samples of Covid-19 in the 17 (3 new) ICMR testing labs has been increasing testing of samples at a very good rate and today 3015 (yesterday-2611) samples within 24 hour were tested that tally 35767 (yesterday-32752) till now since day 1. 

A total of 9576 (yesterday-9618) persons are under home quarantine/ observation/ surveillance and 75541 (yesterday-75083) persons have been home quarantined while  65965 (yesterday-65465) people were released from home quarantine. 

Currently in the 582 institutional government quarantine centres there are, 4964 (yesterday-4757) persons and so far from these centres, 18307 (yesterday-17610) persons were released in the past.  
Currently in the state there are 68 Hospitals dedicated for treating COVID-19, 16 Government Covid hospitals and 52 Private Covid-19 hospitals.

INDIA 
Today is the India’s nationwide lockdown's 45th day or the 5th day of the 3rd phase of lockdown, which has been extended till May 17. Restrictions have been eased in non-hotspot areas from today. 

Globally, at least 3,952,162 people have been infected and 2,320,548 are active, after 271,884 deaths and 1,359,730 recoveries.

In the last 24 hours, 103 deaths (yesterday-126) taking the death toll to 1886 (yesterday-1783) (+103) and 3390 (yesterday-3561) new cases, has been recorded in the whole country. 56342 confirmed cases (yesterday-52952) and 37916 (Yesterday-35902) (+2014) active cases is recorded today. 

Today 1272 people that tally 16539 (yesterday-15267) (+1272) have recovered so far according to the latest update released by the Union Ministry for Health and Family Welfare. 

Maharashtra remains the worst-hit state with 17974 (yesterday-16758) (+1216) cases and 694 (yesterday-651) (+43) deaths and 3301 (yesterday-3094) (+207) recovery. 

The second highest increase is observed in Gujrat, it has 7013 (yesterday-6625) (+388) confirmed cases and 425 (yesterday-396) (+29) death and 1709 (yesterday-1500) (+209) recovery and release from Hospital. 

The next is Delhi with 5980 (yesterday-5532) (+448) confirmed cases and 66 death (+1) and 1931 (yesterday-1542) (+389) recovery.
