KalimNews, Kalimpong, 4 May 2020: On 31 December 2019, the outbreak of a disease was traced to a novel strain of coronavirus, which was given the interim name 2019-nCoV by the World Health Organization (WHO), later renamed SARS-CoV-2 by the International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses. Till todate this disease has spread across 215 countries. As on 4 May 2020, there is report of 3,407,747 Confirmed cases and 238198 Confirmed deaths caused by the virus causing this disease. 

DAILY REPORT 

NORTH BENGAL 
Though districts of Kalimpong and Darjeeling has no cases of Covid 19, 8 patients of other areas are being treated in the Dr. Chang's Super speciality Covid 19 Hospital located at Siliguri. 
Remaining 8 patients under treatment (their condition is stable) in the same hospital are, an eye specialist doctor of North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (resident of Kolkata), 4 of a family (1 of Kamakhyaguri and 1 of Barobisha of Alipurduar and 2 are residents of Coochbehar), 2 from Malda and 1 ambulance driver of Chennai who drove a person on 27 April from Chennai to Tripura via Assam and on his return was stopped at Dhupguri and tested positive. 
At NBMCH, 3 expectant mother in the maternity ward and a driver and his assistant in the isolation ward are under treatment as suspected cases. 
674 persons of Alipurduar district are kept in different quarantine centres.
Several people of north Bengal are admitted in different government designated Severe Acute Respiratory Illness (SARI) hospital but their tests are negative.

GTA 
In Desun (SARI) Hospital 16 persons are under observation/ treatment of which 1 is admitted from Kalimpong district while others of the GTA area are discharged. 
In addition to that 33 people are in 3 different institutionalised quarantine centres of Siliguri. 
No patients are admitted in any of the quarantine centres of Kalimpong district. 
In Batasia TB centre, 1 and in Old Railway Hospital of Kurseong, 3 persons are admitted for quarantine. 
With the home coming of students and other people from other states, the number of people in self quarantine at their residence in the district of Darjeeling is 139 while in Kalimpong district is 161. 

STATE 
In the state 61 new cases and 11 death is recorded today and the total number of confirmed Covid-19 in West Bengal is 1259 (yesterday 1198) while active cases is 908 (yesterday-678) and total death till now is 61. 
The testing of samples of Covid-19 in the 16 (2 new) ICMR testing labs has been increasing at a very good rate and today 2201 (yesterday- 1939, day before yesterday-2410) samples were tested within 24 hour that tally 25116 (yesterday-22915) samples. 
Currently 5755 (yesterday-6953) persons are under home quarantine/ observation/ surveillance and 63765 (yesterday-62365) persons have completed surveillance and released from home quarantine. 
218 were discharged after recovery.
Currently in the state there are 15 Government Covid hospitals and 52 Private Covid 19 hospitals.
In the Institutional Quarantine Centres Government quarantine/ hospital isolation 4860 (yesterday-4532) persons are admitted and so far 16280 (yesterday-15811) persons have been released from Institutional Quarantine.  




INDIA 
Today is the India’s nationwide lockdown's 41st day or the 1st day of the 3rd phase of lockdown, which has been extended till May 17. Restrictions have been eased in non-hotspot areas from today. 
In the last 24 hours, 83 deaths (yesterday it was 73), has been recorded taking the toll to 1389 in the whole country. 2573 new cases were reported within 24 hr, and have surged to 42836 confirmed cases (yesterday it was 42533), 29685 (Yesterday it was 29453) active cases. 
The death recorded due to Covid-19 was 1389 (yesterday-1306 (+83). Today 1074 people that tally 11762 (yesterday -11706) have recovered so far according to the latest update released by the Union Ministry for Health and Family Welfare. 
Maharashtra remains the worst-hit state with 12974 (yesterday- 12296 (+678) cases and 548 (yesterday-521) (+27) deaths and 2115 (yesterday 2000) (+115) recovery. 
The second highest increase is observed in Gujrat, it has 5428 (yesterday-5055 (+374) confirmed cases and 290 (yesterday-262) (+28) death and 1042 (yesterday-896) recovery and release from Hospital. 
The next is Delhi with 4549 (yesterday 4122) (+427) confirmed cases and 64 death (+0) and 1362 (yesterday 1256 (+106) recovery. No fresh Corona case has been reported in 80 districts since last 7 days 2144 dedicated COVID-19 hospitals have been identified at both Centre and State level which includes 755 dedicated COVID hospitals and 1389 Dedicated COVID Health Centres (DCHC).
