Siliguri Covid patients count 4 in four days: 1 patient is again reported from Patiram Jote of Matigara in SIliguri. Today the 32 year asymptomatic patient is admiited at Dr. Chang's Hospital. The patient had been to Assam with his family and had done his test there. He returned back 3 days back and his test result was made known today and accordingly he is admitted in the hospital. 

Today, Sikkim also has started a Virus research and diagnostic research laboratory (VRDL) at STNM hospital.Chief minister P.S.Golay inaugurated the laboratory. 

It will do Real Time Polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) (RdRp gene assay) tests. Earlier the state had a TruNAT machine as a Covid-19 screening test. Another test called Cartridge Based Nucleic Acid Amplification Test (CB-NAAT) also called GeneXpert test is also used for the screening.

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and National Institute of Cholera and Enteric disease (NICED),  controls all the VRDL labs and the tests performed in them. 

ICMR had approved the use of the tuberculosis testing machine for coronavirus screening tests.The TrueNat machines are used to test drug-resistant Tuberculosis (TB).ICMR had recommended the use of the Truenat beta CoV test on Truelab Workstation as a screening test. It has also approved the use of US-FDA approved real-time Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) systems such as GeneXpert and Roche Cobas- 6800/800 in emergency situations.

VRDL is a ICMR-NICED designated regional level (Grade-1) laboratory established by the Department of Health Research under ministry of health and family welfare, government of india 

NORTH BENGAL 

DESUN (SARI)

2 Technicians (one in X-ray department and another in laboratory) of Dr. Chang’s Super specialty Covid-19 Hospital on Tuesday had some influenza like symptoms and were admitted at DESUN hospital. Their test result came to be negative and were released today.

In DESUN severe acute respiratory infection (SARI) Hospital, there were 27 patients and 22 after testing negative are released and as of now 5 are under treatment for symptoms of Covid- 19 like illness. Of these 2 are in the ICU with respiratory difficulties.

A patient of Siliguri died in the hospital, he tested negative.

Covid-19 Hospital

As of now there are 67 Covid-19 patients in North Bengal, and they are as follows- 1 patient in Jalpaiguri, 1 of Bangladesh and found in Coochbehar, 19 in Uttar Dinajpur, 3 in Dakshin Dinajpur, 37 in Malda, 6 in Darjeeling admitted in different district COVID-19 Hospitals.

In Dr. Chang’s Superspeciality Covid-19 Hospital, 6 patients are now under treatment. 

They are 3 patients of Siliguri admitted 3 days before. One of them is a 40 year old insurance agent of Deshbandhupara-Babuparu ward no. 27. The other patient is a 48 yr old fruit vendor of Dangipara ward no. 6 and his 10 year old son.

Other Covid-19 positive patients are, 1 doctor of NBMCH (resident of Kolkata), 1 driver of Chennai and 1 patients of Alipurduar related to the kidney patient. These two have tested negative for the first time.

Presently there are 4 patients under observation in the Isolation ward of North Bengal Medical College and Hospital. Of them two patients are in the Isolation ward of maternity department.

All of the above patients have symptoms related to respiratory problems and similar to Covid-19 and their test result is awaited.

KalimNews, Kalimpong, 21 May 2020:  157 persons are in institutional and  2490 (yesterday 2252) of Gorkhaland Territorial Administration area.in home quarantine. 

Institutional quarantine facilities:-

In DISHA of Kalimpong, 38 admitted.

In Marwari Bhawan, Kalimpong 10 admitted.

In ITI Upper Fagu, Gorubathan, 34 are admitted 

In Mungpoo ITI at Takdah 6 persons.

21 persons are admitted at Batasia TB centre, 

13 are admitted in Old Railway Hospital of Kurseong. 

At Pokhriabong PHC 14 are admitted. 

At Mirik College, 21 are admitted. (Contacts of an Assam's Covid 19 patient who came to Saureni of Mirik to visit her parents and had returned to her husband's home at Jorhat of Assam )

157 (yesterday 143) patients are now in 8 different institutional quarantines. 

With the home coming of students and other people from other states, the number of people in home quarantine at their residence in the district of Darjeeling is increased from 1426 to 1508 while in Kalimpong district it is increased from 836 to 982

Altogether there are 2490 (yesterday 2252) persons are in home quarantine. Those who recently came from different states are now kept in the institutional quarantines till their swab test result confirms their negative to Covid-19. Swab testing so far has tested negative of all the travellers.

KalimNews, Kalimpong, 21 May 2020: In the state new cases (1 day before-142, 2 days before- 136) and 6 death (1 day before-3, 2 days before-6) and 57 recovery (1 day before-77, 2 days before-62) is recorded today. The total number of confirmed cases of Covid-19 in West Bengal is 3197 (1 day before-3103, 2 days before-2961) while active cases is 1745 (1 day before-1714, 2 days before-1637) and death toll till now is 187 (1 day before-181, 2 days before-178).
There is 72 death due to Co-morbidity while 1193 (1 day before-1136, 2 days before-1006) are released after recovery. 
The testing of swab samples for Covid-19 in 27 ICMR testing labs is being done at a very good rate and today 4242 (1 day before 8720, 2 days before--8712) samples within 24 hour were tested that tally 115244 (1 day before-111002, 2 days before-102282) till now since day 1.    

Today 96548 persons (1 day before-94722, 2 days before- 86952) are currently under home quarantine/ observation/ surveillance and total 169526 persons (1 day before-167211, 2 days before-158841) were in the home quarantine/ observation/ surveillance. 
Number of people released from home quarantine was 77978 (1 day before-72849, 2 days before-71889). 
Currently in the 582 institutional government quarantine centres there are 13044 persons (1 day before-12661, 2 days before-12482) and so far from these centres 35899 persons (1 day before-34104, 2 days before-32112) were released in the past. 
Currently in the state there are 69 Hospitals dedicated for treating COVID-19, 16 Government Covid hospitals and 53 Private Covid-19 hospitals.
