Gorkhaland administration to bring health services to doorsteps

Amitava Banerjee | MP | 28 April 2020 | Darjeeling: While in many parts of the country treatment facilities for non-COVID-19 ailments are getting scarce, the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration is set to take treatment right to the doorsteps, specially in far-flung rural areas with the Sanjivani Health Services. 

The GTA had an emergent meeting attended by health department officials and doctors on Tuesday. "We have to reactivate the health primary centers and sub-centers. People are hardly coming to the centers out of fright since the Pandemic. 

The doctors, nurses will be visiting these centers along with tea garden dispensaries. Free medicines will also be available. We have enough" stated Anit Thapa, Chairman, GTA. 

Mobile clinics, fully equipped with doctors, nurses, medicines and basic test facilities including blood sugar testing will be deployed in tea gardens and remote areas. Along with identifying COVID-19 symptoms, the mobile clinics will also treat non-Covid 19 diseases like diarrhea and malaria. 

The mobile vans will treat around 500 patients per day and awareness and sensitisation for COVID-19 will also be carried out. 

"The number of patients coming to Government hospitals and health centers has come down by 70%. People are scared to come to hospitals specially with symptoms like fever, throat problems and breathing problems. They feel that they will be asked to go to Siliguri for tests. We have to take health services to their doorsteps" stated Thapa.
