28 April 2020- Covid 19 diary- 2nd doctor dies in West Bengal, 934 death in India .. 3 released from Siliguri hospital

KalimNews, Kalimpong, 28 April 2020: With the death of 2nd Doctor in West Bengal the total death rises to 22. Dr Sisir Kumar Mandal, (69 year) senior orthopaedic surgeon of Belle Vue hospital is suspected to have died of Covid-19, in Kolkata on Monday night. However there is no confirmation because in West Bengal there is an audit committee which segregates direct and co-morbid COVID-19 cases. This is the second case of doctor’s death in West Bengal related to Covid-19. 
On April 26, senior medical officer Dr Biplab Kanti Dasgupta, 60 had passed away after testing positive for the virus. Dr Dasgupta, posted as assistant director health services (equipment and stores), was initially admitted to Beliaghata Infectious Diseases hospital and later shifted to a private hospital in Salt Lake on April 18, where he succumbed to the disease. His wife has also tested positive and is currently under treatment at a government hospital. 
Dr Mandal, was admitted to a private hospital on April 14,  and tested positive for COVID-19 and was on a ventilator since April 17. His condition deteriorated and he died on Monday at around 9:15 pm.  

684 patients (22.77%) caused by the disease COVID-19 in India has so far been cured in the last 24 hours. The novel coronavirus, or COVID-19, caused by SARS-CoV-2 virus has spread across 185 countries and territories. Globally, the United States, Spain, Italy, France, Germany and the UK are the most-affected countries. Billions of people around the world are into lockdown as health services struggle to cope. Maharashtra, Gujarat and Delhi have reported the highest number of cases in India. The nationwide lockdown started from 14th April 2020 has entered 35th day today, which has been extended till May 3 and may be extended. 
To tackle the situation and to ensure that we are prepared well to face the challenge and threat posed by the growing pandemic of COVID-19 the Corona Virus, the Government of India is taking all necessary steps.
Since the lockdown has been extended till 3rd May 2020, with guidelines from the Government of India regarding tightened and relaxed restrictions.

2 nurse and mother in law of a nurse has tested negative who were under treatment at  Dr. Chang's Superspeciality Covid 19 Hospital and are released. While the husband and the child of one of the nurse are awaiting test result.  They are admitted in the isolation centre and are recovering.

2 people of Kalimpong are in the quarantine centre of Gorubathan located at ITI of Upper Fagu under Kalimpong district.
4 patients of Kalimpong district and 1 of Darjeeling district were released from Desun Hospital in Siliguri at the same time, 1 person is admitted from Kalimpong. There are 1 person of Darjeeling and 1 from Kalimpong district who are not Covid -19 patients are under treatment for immunity related symptoms. 

As of today the number of people in self quarantine in the district of 
Darjeeling is decreased from 144 to 119 in  while in Kalimpong district it is 51.

STATE
With 64 new cases today the total number of COVID-19 cases in West Bengal is 697 while active cases is 522 (yesterday-568) with 22 deaths.
An official release of the West Bengal Health and family welfare department states that the testing of samples of Covid-19 in the 14 ICMR testing labs has been increasing and today 1180 (yesterday-1150 ) samples were tested within 24 hour that tally 13223 samples. 
As of today 16052  (yesterday-18629) persons are under home observation/surveillance and 45711 (yesterday-42774) persons have completed surveillance. 
Till today under hospital isolation 3970 (yesterday-3888) persons have been admitted and presently the total number of people infected by COVID-19 contagion in West Bengal is 697  (yesterday-504). So far 3702 persons (119-today) have been discharged from hospital isolation after completing quarantine period while 268 are still admitted and undergoing treatment. In the state there are 66 Covid Hospitals and 582 Institutional Quarantine Centres in which 18416 persons are kept in Institutional Quarantine (Cumulative) and so far 13028 persons have been released from Institutional Quarantine (Cumulative). 

INDIA 
The pandemic has so far killed more than 3,083,453 people across the world and globally 1,936,815 are active cases and more than 212,498 died of it  while 934,140 recovered.

In India 1542 new cases were reported within 24 hr, and have surged to 29435 confirmed cases, 21632 (+500) active cases, including 934 (+48) deaths.Today 684 and in total 6868 people have recovered so far according to the latest update released by the Union Ministry for Health and Family Welfare.
Maharashtra remains the worst-hit state with 8590 (+522 new) cases and 369 (+27) deaths and 1282 recovery. 
The second highest increase is observed in Gujrat which has outnumbered Delhi, it has 3548 confirmed cases and 162 death and 394 recovery and release from Hospital.
The next is Delhi with 3108 confirmed cases and 54 death and 877 recovery.  
No fresh Corona case has been reported in 80 districts since last 7 days 2144 dedicated COVID-19 hospitals have been identified at both Centre and State level which includes 755 dedicated COVID hospitals and 1389 Dedicated COVID Health Centres (DCHC).
