Alipurduar books teacher for corona Facebook post

SNS, 18 March 2020, ALipurduar: The Alipurduar police have booked a primary school teacher under section 505/2 of the IPC for making a Facebook post on corona virus.
It is learn t that the primary school teacher, who lives in the Suryanagar area in Alipurduar town under the Alipurduar police station, claimed in her post that a patient had been admitted in the Alipurduar Hospital on suspicion of being affected with the novel coronavirus.
"We have also warned the teacher and instructed her to comply with our instructions. She must appear in the court within 48 hours and has to seek bail," Alipurduar Superintendent of Police, Amitava Maity, said.
"We have started a specific case against her for the post that she made in social media, which could disturb peace in the area." Maity said.
Sources said that the "media screening cell' of the district health department first came to know of such a post in Facebook.
"The matter came to the notice of our media screening cell first and as soon as it came to our notice, we made a verbal complaint with the Alipurduar police. Police did its work after that. Spreading fake information regarding coronavirus on social media is illegal. We will take steps against all such acts," said the Deputy Chief Medical Officer of Health-2 of Alipurduar, Dr Subarna Goswami.
Notably, the secretary of the Alipurduar district Bharatiya Janata Party, Ratan Tarafder, was arrested for making such a post on Facebook a few days ago.
