Timber worth Rs 1 cr seized in N Bengal
Amitava Banerjee | MP | Darjeeling: The special task force of the forest department on Tuesday seized two trucks and recovered timber worth approximately Rs 1 crore.
"Two trucks laden with timber have been seized by forest personnel of Belakoba range. The timber was not from Bengal.
It was from North East and was being taken to Kolkata. Investigation is on,'" said Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, VK Sood.
The special task force seized the trucks on Tuesday morning on the NH-31C at Fatapukur. Altogether 50,400 shegun wood planks were recovered from the trucks. The trucks were coming for Assam and were going to Kolkata.
The arrested include Yashpal Singh, (61) and Sunil Kumar (42) from Vill-Rajpura, Patiala, Punjab. Yashpal Singh is a former Craftsman in the Indian Army. Both of them will be produced in the court on Wednesday.
