MP demand on `atrocity'

TT, 04 Dec 2019, Siliguri: Darjeeling MP Raju Bista demanded in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday constitution of a Parliamentary committee to examine alleged police atrocities in Bengal, particularly in Darjeeling.
"I have requested the House to constitute a Parliamentary committee to examine police atrocities on common citizens of Bengal. Their report should be placed in Parliament so that the nation is made aware of the situation that people in the state face these days," the BJP MP said in a statement.
Bista also referred to recent arrests of 14 workers of the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha's Bimal Gurung faction in Darjeeling. The arrests came after they had held a meeting in Darjeeling, the first of the faction since 2017.
"On November 29, they were arrested from various places in the hills in the middle of night without any reason. I have mentioned in Parliament that over 5,000 youths from the hills, Terai and the Dooars are staying away from homes as the police are in search of them. They are worried over their security," Bista said.
